Edmilson Luis Rodrigues Motta is one of the main leaders of Mathematical Olympiads in Brazil and Latin America. He has been the Academic Director of the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad for more than 10 years, and, for more than 30 years, he is one of the main creators of Olympic problems in Brazil, with hundreds of problems proposed for national and international Mathematical Olympiads. He is also involved for more than 30 years in the selection and training of the Brazilian teams that participate at the IMO, the Iberoamerican Math Olympiad and the Cono Sur Math Olympiad. Edmilson was leader, deputy leader and coordinator in several editions of the IMO, and was member of the IMOAB (now IMO Board) for several years. He was the Chairman of the IMO 2017, held in Rio de Janeiro – he had a central role in the organization of that edition of the IMO, the first IMO held in Brazil, which was quite successful. Edmilson Motta has many contributions besides the organization of Math competitions for the mathematical education in Brazil, particularly in the edition of books and journals for students and teachers of mathematics. He is currently one of the editors of the collections of the Brazilian Mathematical Society of books for Scientific Initiations and Mathematical Olympiads, and is also the main editor of the Revista do Professor de Matemática, a traditional journal for teachers of mathematics.
